Four Traps In Your Future

Have you ever been caught speeding in a radar trap? Just as you come out of my neighborhood, there is a street with no houses, very little traffic and it looks like you can go 30-35 mph on it… but it is 25mph. Often times a police officer will sit under a tree on a motorcycle. I have paid the fine!

There is a guaranteed trap in your future. You cannot avoid it. It will come. It can destroy couples, families, churches and businesses. It is not bankruptcy, affairs, theft, sex, drugs, or rock and roll. The trap that destroys is grudges.

Jesus said these potential grudges are coming and you cannot stop them coming.

He said to the disciples, "It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe [to him] through whom they do come! [Luke 17:1]

These traps are in four places:

1. What People Say

While Jesus is telling His disciples that He is going to the cross and will be humiliated and beaten, Peter steps in and tells the Son of God, “No,Jesus, I have a better idea”. Have people said things to you that cut you deep?

2. What They Don’t Say

10 men come to be healed of a disease that is destroying their lives. Jesus is out doing ministry that He will eventually be executed for, but takes the time to heal them. Only 1 of those who were healed came back to say,”Thank you.” Have you ever helped someone at a cost to you and they never thanked you?

3. What People Do

Jesus was rejected by the very people He came for… He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. [John 1:11 NASB]  The men who knew the Bible the more than anyone else, the ones who were most religious, rejected Him openly and planned His death.  Have you been rejected by those who should have been grateful to you? Did you ever help someone financially and not only did they not thank you, but avoided you?

4. What People Don’t Do

Jesus is in terrible grief because of the horrible torture He will experience in just a few hours. He asks His disciples to pray with Him-but they go to sleep instead.

Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me." [Matthew 26:38]
Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? [Matthew 26:40]
And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. [Matthew 26:41]
So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. [Matthew 26:44 NKJV]

Have you ever asked for help from people and they committed to help you. But they never did what they promised?

It’s a Trap… Grudges and revenge are traps that will bring tormentors into your life according to Jesus. So what do you do?

Forgive. It is not easy. It takes work.

"This [being] so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men. [Acts 24:16]

Just forgive!
