People look for courage in a lot of places. They get confidence from how much money they make, the clothes they wear, or what kind of house they live in. Others get pumped up by movies they watch, or having a good body by making to the gym regularly. But there are places that most people do not think of, where real courage and confidence comes from.
It can come from the fear of the Lord.
“In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, And his children will have refuge.” - Proverbs 14:26.
Amazing isn’t it? If I live a life where I realize God is in charge of everything, and the smartest thing I can do is obey Him, the natural result is confidence. It is there that I know He backs me up.
It can come from following the way of God.
The way of the Lord is strength for the upright. - Proverbs 10:29
A byproduct of doing things God’s way is that it brings me strength. The more I obey, the stronger I get. I remember meeting very solid Christians before I was one, and their strength was intimidating. Because of their obedience, they had a confidence I didn’t.
It can come from real prayer.
On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. - Psalm 138:3 .
Many people grew up thinking that prayer was something you did as punishment or penitence. But I have experienced that when I was afraid and cried out to God, I walked away stronger.
