A woman in her forties got married and was so glad to finally not live alone, but was a bit nervous about her honeymoon. So, the people in the church wanted to encourage her by sending a telegram with a verse of Scripture:
1 John 4:18 which says, “There is no fear in love, but perfect fear casts out all fear". But someone omitted, by mistake, the 1 before John and the telegram just read: John 4:18 which says, "The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband!"
How do you think that mistake went over?!?
The fact is that when God made us, He made us to need others.
Eccles. 4:9-12 (NKJV) Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor.
This is especially true about the church. The church is not buildings, but people. The church is really God’s people- a family, a people who love God and love each other. Christians are made by God to be together.
People say,” I love God but I just don’t like His kids!” Hmmm. Would you like it if someone said that about your kids, “Yes, we would like to come for dinner, but are your children going to be there? Because if they are, we don’t want to be with them.”
People get upset with other Christians and find many excuses not to be with them. But the truth is we need each other. That is not a statement of weakness; it is a statement of fact. God made us to need Him and His church.
Many times, we just need to forgive and accept one another. Let’s be diligent to live as Jesus said.
John 13:34 (NIV) "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another”.
