Changing your weakness into His strength

Joshua 1:8-9 (NIV) Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.(9) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

This man Joshua is about to take three million plus people into a land  where there were seven different nations who were larger and stronger than they were. 40 years before a team of 12 spies had gone into this same land and told Moses and the people, “We are like grasshoppers next to them.”  The people who said this were raised in the families who had complained and criticized for most of their lives. They had been so stubborn that God himself declared them to be unfit to enter the promised land. Now Joshua, without his mentor’s help, must lead them into the new land.

Do you ever feel like live is an uphill battle? That there are so many things against you? Joshua has this incredible task in front of him. God says,”You can no longer think the way you have been thinking. Joshua from now on you must put MY WORDS and MY THOUGHTS into your mind and mouth. You will have to be strong to make this great change happen. What really has to change from now on, Joshua, is the way you think.”

Before my dentist would drill a hole through my tooth and out my jaw, he would kindly say, "just think about the beach, Bob”. But God doesn't say, "just think happy thoughts". No God told him to ingrain His words into his mind and heart. God’s thoughts needed to be Joshua's second nature.

You must believe that the word of God can change you. It has that power because it is “alive and active.” It has a life of its own. When we began to think with scripture, we are adding life to our thoughts.

“This book of the law shall not DEPART." Believe me, there will be times when you want to revert back to your old thinking.  It will take courage to really change you thinking, beause there will be times when it seems like this bible thing just doesn’t work and you will want to give up. But, “Be strong and courageous.” There is the commandment to make you firm; to make you steady. But what really empowers your obedience, what empowers your thoughts is this,“For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Real success is not a matter of strength and courage alone, but strength and courage that comes from the knowledge that God is with us.
