The Law That Works for You

Some people live out their lives never getting a clue to how the world runs.

George, a very wealthy man, had died.  His lawyer is standing before the family and reads out his Last Will and Testament. "To my dear wife Mary, I leave the house, 50 acres of land, and 1 million dollars.  To my son Abel, I leave my Lexus, and all my stocks and bonds.  To my daughter Suzy, I leave my yacht and $250,000.  To my brother-in-law Frank, who never did a days work in his life, who only at the best food-mine, and who all his life said I would never remember him in my will….”Hello, Frank!"

What Frank never realized was to put into actions the principals that make life work.
There is a law that is always working.  A law that no one can ever break, but all too often breaks people.  It is the Law of Sowing and Reaping.

This law exists and can not be broken. It is not negative. Usually people think of it that way, but it is not negative at all! It is the law that allows you to plan your future… "What will life be like next year? In five years? …..What will my children be like? … What impact will my life have?

Consider this - What you sow, you will reap.

Genesis 8:22 (NIV)
"As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease."

There use to be a song in my parent’s generation- “Que sera sera , what ever will be will be, the future’s not ours to see Que sera sera.”

Now although God is sovereign and some things in life we can not avoid, for the most part you will get from life what you sow into it.

At the Sundance Festival in Park City, Utah, Robert Downey Jr., who had lots of trouble with the law because of his addiction to alcohol and drugs said: “Oh, I can't drink these days. I'm allergic to alcohol and narcotics. If I use them, I break out in handcuffs.”

Galatians 6:7-8 (NIV) Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. [8] The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Do you see? The choice is ours.  We choose what we are going to reap.  Jesus said if you are merciful, you will get mercy back. (Mat 5:7)

Now most of the people I know, including myself, need lots of mercy. How do make sure that in the months ahead people will forgive you when they don’t really have to? How will you develop a life that people do not hold grudges against? Start now by giving mercy and giving it abundantly.

The first rule in understanding the Law of Sowing and Reaping is:

We reap the same kind of substance we sow

So what do you want? Love, Peace, Joy, Forgiveness, Prosperity? They come by sowing those things. Even finances grow by giving to the Lord and being generous to men.

Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

What could you possibly loose by committing to a life of sowing good things and being generous? Nothing. In fact, the Bible says you gain it all back. You can plan the blessing for you and your home.
