As Operation Iraqi Freedom raged, Mohammed al-Sahhaf, Iraq's Minister of Information, daily refuted clear evidence that Iraq was losing the war. On April 6, after coalition forces seized Baghdad's Saddam Airport, renamed it Baghdad International Airport, started flying planes in, and ventured into Baghdad itself, the Miami Herald quoted al-Sahhaf saying, "We butchered the force present at the airport." On April 7, after U.S. troops penetrated central Baghdad and stormed Saddam's Republican Palace, the Washington Post quoted al-Sahhaf saying, "There is no presence of the American columns in the city of Baghdad at all.…We besieged them, and we killed most of them." His entire job was to delude the Iraqi people with twisted information in order to keep them in bondage.
There is an Intel war going on for our minds. A great deceiver is alive and at work. His goal is to deceive people from following after God. And he is good at it! Scripture says about this great deceiver, Satan, that he has the ability to deceive the whole world. Rev 12:9. He has the ability to make good look bad, right seem wrong, convince us there are no consequences, and relegate devotion the Jesus Christ as only for those who are easily swayed. He is a devil alright. Even the great Apostle Paul was concerned about whether or not an entire church could be deceived by Satan’s remarkable talent for pretext.
2 Cor. 11:3 (NIV)
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
Yes, there is a liar on the loose. But how do we know what is the lie and what is the truth? The cost for living our lives according to the lie is just too damaging for us to live naïve. So how do you discern? The way to fight the lie is to know the truth. If the holiest man who ever lived, Jesus Christ, relied on knowing the truth of scripture in order win this battle of deception, then certainly we need to do so as well. Here are some lies he tells and what the truth is:
Satan lies and says:
You will be broke and lose everything
But the truth is
Psalm 37:25 (NASB)
I have been young, and now I am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Or his descendants begging bread.
You can't live this Christian life
Philip. 4:13 (NKJV)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Nothing good can come out of this
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
People are always hurting you
For ourstruggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms
God is punishing you
Hebrews 12:6 (NKJV)
For whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives
You are just a weak person
2 Cor. 12:9 (NKJV)
And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness ."
You are all alone
Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV)
...For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
What if you and your family lived as though the bible were true. What if instead of dread they lived confidently. What if we really believed God was big enough to care for them completely, and had enough integrity to do what He promised.
Those that do that win the battle of the mind and end up winning in this life and the next.
