Proverbs 8:11 "For wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things cannot compare with her."
I love sitting down to talk to a Christian who has lived a life where the blessing of God is so evident. Don't you just love seeing God's blessing in action? While listening to them, you hear of decisions they made that were made in wisdom. They made hard decisions for doing right. Others I know made different decisions at that same moment that were wrong, and they eventually paid for them with the consequences: financial woes, breakup of a marriage or home, unable to keep good jobs. For those whom God has blessed, it was all determined by the wisdom they lived their lives with. That wisdom helped them make the good hard decision when others made the wrong choices. Often I would think, "Do I have what it takes to make those hard decisions?” And looking at their lives I think, “where do they get that? How did they end up on their feet?”
I now know that path was wisdom, and I've learned where to get it
Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."
The fear of the Lord is knowing there are consequences to what I do and don't do. When I realize that God is ruling the earth and rewards obedience to His principles I begin to understand how life is to be lived. It is the staring place (the Beginning of Wisdom). He is running the world and you and I are not. Early in my Christian life I was impacted by that reality. There were times that fearing God, not just have warm fuzzy feelings about Him, kept me from doing things that would have destroyed me or my family. Knowing that there were consequences to my actions helped me make the right choices. Fearing God was the beginning of wisdom for me.
